Gordon Sneddon Artist (Bio)
I’m a self-taught artist with my own unique style – based on a love of vibrant colour, strong
lines and contrasting elements. My main inspiration comes from coastal scenes—particularly
resorts and harbours in the South West of England, but I am always looking to develop my
work further and explore different subjects.
I am resident in West Dorset and have been painting for over 30 years and selling my work
for the last 15 years in various galleries and outlets.
My love and understanding of colour developed in an earlier part of my career in the printing
ink industry – particularly on the printing of banknotes – which are works of art in
themselves.
Art can be very subjective but my aim is to communicate some of the happiness I experience
when exploring, interpreting and painting these scenes. In my current work I try to achieve
this through the clean, transparent hues of watercolour within bold compositions and an
unusual use of perspective.
At times I employ a range of techniques and other media to extend the scope of my work
beyond that of more traditional watercolours. I have recently retired from full time
employment so I look forward to taking my artwork to a completely new level.
I hope my paintings present a view of the local landscape that is at once both familiar and
yet different and that they will continue to find a place in many homes in the UK and
overseas.
